ACTIVATE PARRAMATTA IN AR

Tags: Augmented Reality, Digital Art, Digital Placemaking

As part of Activate Parramatta, a series of interactive art installations featuring Augmented Reality were implemented, a Transport for NSW plan to support local businesses during light rail construction.

The Parramatta River foreshore hosted a beach-themed artwork painted on site by artist Keith Stanley. At Riverside Theatre, Indigenous artist Geoff Sellman’s work highlights the journeys of eels and connections of people through time, showing how ‘Burramatta’ (the Dharug word for ‘Parramatta’, ‘Burra’ meaning the Eel Ancestor of Parramatta and ‘matta’ meaning place) has always been a meeting place for people, animals and nature alike. Centenary Square gets a little Christmas cheer thanks to a temporary art installation. A captivating Christmas scene was painted live by Shannon Boyd.

The large-scale artworks feature augmented reality (AR) technology that will come to life with moving parts when viewed through the lens of your smart phone.
